Taster Experience
What to expect from our taster experience:
First of all, we will provide you with a protective bee suit.
Worn correctly it is very unlikely you will be stung.
Please bring your wellies, or boots covering your ankles, and new marigold gloves (new ones ensure bee hygiene) – they are personal and we do not keep them at the apiary.
We will explain all parts of an empty hive, and how it works in theory
We will demonstrate to you the most important tools for beekeeping: the smoker and hive tool
We will then approach the hive.
If at any time during the experience you’re feeling uncomfortable, please calmly walk away back to the meeting point – there is no shame in this – beekeeping is not for everyone!
Inside the hive you will see…. about 60,000 bees!
You will see where the honey is stored and we will explain how it is extracted.
We will then go to the heart of the hive and see the different life stages of bees and their home.
We will explain what they are doing, you will see the pollen being brought in and how they are organised.
It’ll be an exciting day for all of us so please ask questions during the event.
